Studies in Stockholm are mainly focused in the area of legal informatics such as e-government, knowledge management systems and information retrieval as well as IT security issues and, more recently, social networks.
The Swedish master programme is made up of two blocks. The EULISP students takes part in the second block and conclude this with a lengthy exam.
The lectures are a main part of the two blocks. These take place between January and April and are further divided into different blocks (possibly automated decision making or future development of law and IT), both topics on which several experts then report. These teaching blocks are concluded by discussion groups which students must prepare for in groups.
The second element is comprised of visits to public institutions and enterprises as well as the Swedish parliament, which is the market leader in Sweden on the topic of legal information systems and their effect on law worldwide.
Beside lectures on HTML and presentations, the programme also requires students to complete a total of four practical assignments. Within the scope of these assignments, one publication will normally follow or students must work in groups to draft an information management system to introduce and to work out the mechanisms by which search engines are to be investigated.
The programme along with the full curriculum can be found here.
Finding accommodation in Stockholm can be difficult and, in any case, students should start their search for accommodation early. Hostels are available for six months of residence at the most and those searching for a place to stay may have more success finding some accommodation at one of the hostels which is promoted by the university on the " black boards “ (or also forums). Otherwise, students are recommended to search the Swedish website. Even if the offers are not made in English, the majority of people in Sweden do understand English.
